This looks like some sort of retro sim game. Super-size version via the photo credit.

I believe I spy Chevrolets, a Plymouth, and both Chevy and Ford trucks - possibly an International as well
, but that’s just taking a short once-over.

I think the downtown is still mostly there. Also, there's covered bridges

Interesting. Lots of empty storefronts, but I guess that when you think about it that shouldn’t be a surprise for a small southern town clawing its way out of the depression. I do love that the dinette is simply called The Dinette.

Good food and clean rest rooms. What more could you want?

And in street view:
Besides what you see from the street view, it looks like the building with the angled roof and wooden facade is gone, but the building on the left with the billboards, has been modified to add windows for a drug store, and then most recently had those ripped out and a new wall and door built behind to create a covered entrance.
More angles:

I just went and found that and posted a slightly different angle, a little more like the old photo. That gas station got squared off, too.

More than squared off, I’m pretty sure it’s a whole new building. Though it’s not hard to imagine a scenario where they expanded their service offerings, and then at some point decided that selling gas wasn’t worth it and became a repair shop, eventually necessitating a new building .

for a small southern town clawing its way out of the depression
I’m from Alabama (still live here), and my grandparents always said that everyone here was already so poor anyway that the Great Depression didn’t change things much.

Well I’d prefer no-smoking, but with the era, that might be hard to come by.

The other store with cool angled display windows is empty in both the old picture and one of the new ones. Just waiting for reliable renters...

I think the ones on the main street at least are brand new in the photo. The mortar looks extremely new, and note that the dr ugstore/cafe in the middle of the block has a big and crisp 7-up billboard on its side that wouldn’t be visible with the nearest st o re (which has stuff in it, but no sign) built. Seems like all three of those storefronts are newly constructed.

Looks like those brick storefronts in the middle might have been new or recently renovated.
I’ll pick off just one car, parked behind those buildings is a 40 Plymouth.

facw and I posted some Google shots of the street today. It’s interesting to see that is different and what is the same.

The picture is so clean it looks faked. No scratches, or dust. Exposure perfect, depth of field right.

It loses a bit of that clarity if you view it at full size, and the folks at Shorpy might be doing a little post processing after they scan (from the negative, I think). But t yeah, that sharpness, and the angle, is what makes it look like a video game.
